This guide is designed to aid you (the author, co-authors, and editors) in the creation of your written work, your book.  It will provide you with tips and tricks to improve your writing, formatting your work, help you further understand our formatting techniques, and help prepare your book for production.  Once you’re ready to sell your work our guide also includes marketing tips and tricks (including social media marketing, book signings, and how to use them to further improve your sales), to assist you in picking a marketing strategy that works for your book, and its audience.  You will be provided with additional material through regular updates.

This contract ensures that your work remains in your control.  All parts of your creation belong to you.

PenCraft Books will publish your material in a variety of major online book stores, as well as with a range of print on demand printers, and distributors.  These are the largest in the world, ensuring that your work is available to a global audience; giving that audience the opportunity to buy the format relevant to them.

Throughout your experience with PenCraft Books you will be given access to the PenCraft Books Authors Information website.

This website not only provides you with the comprehensive guidelines, but also a range of other materials for help you promote, market, and sell your book.

PenCraft Books will provide regular updates both through the Authors Information website and via email.

PenCraft Books pays royalties on a monthly accruals basis.

The royalties are calculated based on fees received from online book stores, print on demand printers, and distributors.

Please note – that these fees are only paid to PenCraft between two and six months after the book sale.

PenCraft Books makes sure that your work is properly formatted for every type of sale, whether that be paperback or eBook, to ensure that its appearance is perfect.

Each type of format has a unique appearance, designed in a way that is aesthetically appealing, while also making the most of the space available.  Our formatting will ensure that your work is available in all of these formats

Each format of your book will be registered with a unique ISBN, so that it is easy for anyone to find it.

The ISBN is a unique 13-digit number, which is used internationally as an identifier for books.

This means that no matter where your work is available, it is quick and easy to find.

We will provide your book with a colour cover.  This can use an image of your choosing, or one we provide.

Should you wish to have the cover specifically designed for your book, we will provide you with the required information.

Our creation or input to your cover will ensure that your book stands out from the crowd.

PenCraft Books will create the full cover including the back cover and spine for your printed books.

Each back cover will include four things – a short description of the book, an introduction to you the author, your photograph (professionally taken head and shoulders photograph) as this helps you connect to your audience; and the barcode.

Where the book is a co-authoring book, each authors photograph will appear on the back cover in place of authors introductions and maybe also in place of the book description.

The author’s photograph helps the audience connect to you as the writer and puts a face to your writing.

Each package includes one book with a maximum number pages.

Pages are defined as 1 x A4/letter size with double line spacing and a font no less than 11 pitch.

Each additional 10 pages will be charged at an additional US$25 **.

PenCraft Books recommends that you include a number of images to explain, describe or highlight your text.  Unless otherwise agreed in the contract, the interior of all print books will be printed in black and white; and therefore your photographs, diagrams, and/or illustrations must be of sufficient standard to be converted into black and white inserts.

Each package includes a set number of images.

Each additional photograph, diagram or illustration is charged at US$10 ** per image.

Co-authored books are those books with more two or more authors.

A co-authored book may have an editor or may be organised through one of the co-authors.  Communication with PenCraft Books will either be through the person appointed as the Main Contact - this may be editor or through one appointed co-author.

The standard co-authored book package allows for up to 1 editor and 5 co-authors, writing no more than 350 pages, and incorporating no more than 25 images (in total).

Pricing for co-authoring books that exceed the standard co-authoring book package incur the following additional fees:

  • where the book is less than 350 pages, the number of images is less than 50 and the number of co-authors is less than 10 - $ 250.00 **
  • where the book is more than 350 pages and less than 500 pages, the number of images is less than 50, and the number of co-authors is less than 10 - $ 350.00 **
  • where the book is more than 350 pages and less than 500 pages, the number of images is less than 75, and the number of co-authors is more than 10 and less than 15 - $ 500.00 **
  • additional complimentary books are charged at $ 35.00 ** per book

Each author, co-author, and editor will be provided a set number of books based on the publishing package selected.

These books will be sent to the author, co-author, or editor once the book is approved by PenCraft Books, to the address on the contract, unless otherwise notified two months in advance.

For co-authoring books, the package includes 1 book for each co-author and 1 book for the editor.

Author Page - to further connect with your readers:
Each author, co-author and editor will be provided one page on the PenCraft Books website.  This page carries your introduction to your reading public, and links into all your books.

It also allows you to place your biography, photos, videos, and tour events to it, which will be used in the PenCraft Books social media and marketing.

Each book will be provided one page on the PenCraft Books website.  This page carries all relevant information about the book and in addition to linking back to your authors page and will link to all buying opportunities.

You may request that your photos, videos, and tour events are added to this page, to further connect with your audience.

PenCraft Books can work with you to create a detailed marketing plan related specifically to your book.  This plan will help you market your book to your selected audience.  It will be customised to your needs, so that it fits best for your book.  This will ensure an impact with your target audience, and improved sales.

We will work with you to put together a package of essential materials which are designed for your book specifically and put together for a successful book signing.

These are specially designed cards, featuring your book cover and a QR code, which can direct your audience to where they can purchase your book.  These cards make great giveaways, working similarly to business cards, they ensure that your name, and the name of your work is remembered by your audience.

Although our team will use their coaching and mentoring skills as part of the publishing process, we offer coaching and/or mentoring services in an affordable way so that you can receive assistance, support, and improve your writing.

These sessions are 30 minute sessions which come in the form of one-2-one Skype call with an independently verified accredited/credentialed coach and/or mentor, who can provide assistance with anything from creation of the work, supporting you through the editing and publishing process, to working with you to market your book.

The coaching and mentoring sessions can be with a coach, a mentor, or someone who is qualified in both coaching and mentoring; and can be requested by individual session or by purchasing a package of six or more sessions.

We recommend that all work is copyrighted, so that it remains your property.  At an additional cost we can register your book for you through a internationally recognised registration that declares that your creative work is credited to you.  This registration ensures that any sales are connected to you, and that any creative aspect of it is under your control.

At an additional cost, we are able to provide an editor who will work with you to edit your whole book or individual chapters, ensuring that the book or chapter flows, and following your review, will be ready for publishing.

At an additional cost, we are able to provide a proof reader, who as the last stage of your book will check for grammatical and punctuation errors, spelling mistakes, etc. your whole book or individual chapters, ensuring that the book or chapter flows, and following your review, will be ready for publishing.

Amazon provides you with the facility to create your own authors page.  This page gives your reading audience more information about you, and also provides them with other books that you have written.  This is another way to connect to your audience and encourage them to buy your books.

PenCraft Books provides you with guidelines in the Comprehensive Guidelines and can support you to create the best page promoting your work.

We help you through the process of a Kirkus Review.  Kirkus is a respected organisation that provides many author services, including reviews for books.  These reviews consist of a summary of your work, and a review of it, which helps the audience understand more about your work.  This is essential information to help guide sales and marketing plans.

We will help to get a review of your work published in the London Review of books, which connects it to a global audience.

We will help to get a review of your work published in the New York Times, one of the leaders in book reviews, and publisher of the New York Times best seller list.

Printers and Distributors offer a range of internationally agreed standard size books.  PenCraft Books recommends that you select one of these books sizes, but can work with you should you select a non-standard size book.

With your agreement, we will use the preview function you can give possible readers a glimpse into your work, which can help in building interest and improving sales.  This is only the very beginning of your book, but it helps to build interest and improve sales.

You may have personal or professional pages set up on the leading media sites, but we will establish accounts for your book on the leading media sites.

We will provide you with guidance on how to use these accounts, so that you can connect with your audience on an even greater scale.  This will also give your audience a community, where they can communicate and unite in their enjoyment of your work.
