My 21-day experience.
Brought up vegetarian, I had a reasonably good start in life compared to those on the Standard American Diet (SAD). I became a vegan in my twenties and a raw foodie in my thirties. By my forties, I retrained in various areas of health and healing, and became a Living Foods Practitioner. A perpetual student of all things holistic, one of my key motivators was to finally escape the grip of bulimia nervosa by creating a healthier relationship with food. Adopting the living foods diet and lifestyle helped me achieve that goal. It also meant improved body image, as well as the end of my yo-yo dieting.
Increasing my ratio of raw plant based foods to cooked foods means I’ve now been eating about 95% raw food for several years. However, I still felt that there was more to be gained from exploring what it meant to be vibrantly healthy. By summer 2011 my research led me to the natural hygiene (NH) movement.
What I learnt was a revelation that delighted me. Not least because it felt like I’d discovered the missing piece in the jigsaw. It was that missing link that led me to embark on water fast.
As a student of Natural Hygiene studying a Life Science course, I know eminent hygienists like Dr T.C. Fry used to make water fasting a pre-requisite of their course. So it stands to reason that I too needed first-hand experience of water fasting.
